Iris Berman-Smith became Temple Beth-El's Cemetery Administrator in February 2005. Before that, she was elected Temple Administrator in November, 2002, was Interim Temple Administrator since August, 2002, and Temple Beth-El’s Comptroller since June of 2002.
She has extensive experience in accounting procedures, financial software systems, bookkeeping, budget control and office administration. Before joining Temple Beth-El as bookkeeper in April of 2001, she worked as the Controller of Alliance Media Group in San Antonio and the Office Administrator of Gilmore Graves, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona. She has also had the experience of heading up a customer support department and software programming in the financial software industry. She was a member of NATA (National Association of Temple Administrators).
Iris and her husband, Charles Smith, have been members of Temple Beth-El since moving to San Antonio in 1995 with their children, Ashley and Caitlin. As a member of Temple Beth-El, Iris has participated in Leadership Beth-El, served on the Religious School Committee as both a member and its Chair, and the Sisterhood Board. As a family, the Smiths have celebrated several significant life-cycle events at the Temple, including the Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation of both Ashley and Caitlin.
